We are busy redesigning our commercial kitchen areas to provide takeaway food in bulk for our local communities and this food service will be available in the next couple of days. Made famous as the birthplace and home of the pirate Captain John Oxenham depicted in Charles Kingsleys 1855 historical novel Westward Ho ! One of the most famous coaching inns in the world. Formerly a medieval Benedictine monastery. A living museum from the stone age through to medieval and Elizabethan England. You can walk straight onto Dartmoor from our grounds.
We are open daily from 11 AM with food served from 12 mid-day -(last orders) 2.30PM then 6 PM-(last orders) 8.30 PM. Afternoon teas are served from 2.30 PM - 5 PM. Friendly personal service guaranteed. We have seating for 100 customers for food in our 1477 Bar, Standing Stone Snug, Monastery Restaurant, and Oak Dining Room. In fine weather, we can seat another 100 customers in our beautiful gardens overlooking Dartmoor. It is always advisable to book a table in advance.

Now an Inn, Hotel and AA Rosette Restaurant just off the A30 in one of Devons' most beautiful villages. The was the former home of the pirate and famous Elizabethan Devon mariner Captain John Oxenham (1530-1580).
